PM Modi's Thane Visit: Complete Vehicle Ban from Friday Midnight
In anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Kasarvadavali in Thane on October 5, the Navi Mumbai police have announced a total ban on heavy vehicles entering Thane from Friday midnight to Saturday midnight. This decision comes as the PM's visit coincides with the Navratri festival, which is expected to exacerbate traffic congestion on major routes, particularly the Thane-Panvel road.
An official explained, "Traffic is likely to be significantly heavier on the Pune and Goa highways due to the festival. To prevent any disruptions during the PM's visit, we have implemented this ban on heavy vehicle entry into Thane."
The Navi Mumbai traffic police have also provided alternative routes for heavy vehicles traveling towards Thane. Those heading to Nashik will be rerouted via the JNPT junction, Karjat, Murbad, Shahpur, Kasara, and Igatpuri. For vehicles bound for Gujarat, the designated route will go through JNPT junction, Karjat, Murbad, Shahpur, and then on to Wada and Manor Toll Naka.
Additionally, another alternative route from JNPT junction will direct vehicles via the Pune expressway to Chakan, allowing them to access the Ahmednagar-Nashik highway for further travel.
Importantly, the restrictions do not apply to vehicles carrying essential goods. The ban specifically targets heavy vehicles using the Navi Mumbai to Thane route, and checkpoints will be set up at key locations, including Kharpada, T Point, Rabale, Taloja, Mahape-Shilphata, Chandni Chowk at Nhava Sheva, Uran, and Gavhan Phata, to enforce the regulation.
